Intrigue and Scandals

A friend of mine got a scholarship for free. As in free. No bonds.
Nothing.
What's the catch? No idea.
Isn't it really interesting? Someone just pops out of nowhere and says
that they'll provide scholarship for 3 years in school amounting to
almost $200k? In addition to that, there's no bonds which says that
you have to work for the company for 2 years or something like that.
Plus all you have to do is maintain a GPA of 2.5.
So amazing right?
It's really interesting because it goes against the very logic of the
human nature and secular business world where someone invests without
asking anything in return. It's like making a lost investment or more
simply, a donation. It has really intrigued me and my friend how this
scholarship work. I mean if it was you and it was explained to you
that you don't have to be attached to any bonds and you just have to
maintain a grade of 2.5, you'd certainly ask the person what the catch
is right?
To add on to that, why did the provider not give the opportunity to someone
poor and unable to pay for the fees? Why give it to someone rich and able?
It's really weird.
It is still bugging me until now.

Scandal!!
Imagine a couple. They haven't stead yet but the way they act
(cuddling, holding hands, etc) kind of sends signals that they are
already going steady. In addition the girl already has a boyfriend.
The guy is playing along anyway.
Argh it's so confusing.
